West Londo Lake Association

Dedicated to the betterment of the West Londo Lake Area

WEST LONDO LAKE PROPERTY OWNERS ASSOCIATION

Minutes of meeting on September 3, 2011

The meeting was called to order at 10 AM by Vice President, Jerry Shuk.
Roll call was taken. Present were: Jerry Shuk. Barbara Scheans, Mike MacKenzie, Bob Berger, Walt Wojewoda, Al Longyear, George Kosnak and Ken Cumming.
The Pledge of Allegiance was said.
The Minutes were read. Mary Ann Stephens made a motion to accept the minutes as read. George Kosnak seconded it.
The Treasurer’s report was read. Motion was made by Mary Ann Stephens and seconded by Carl Andrews to accept the report.
Thank you to all the people who have moved rocks out to the island. Another load of smaller rock has been delivered so we can start moving those.
Thanks to Al Longyear and Ken Cumming for cutting grass by the garage.
Weed control has been done 4 times this year and the lake is looking good. The big patches of floating weeds are celery. Chemicals do not work on celery so they are looking into other ways of controlling it.
Eric Hendrickson volunteered to rototill the sand area at the park where weeds are growing. Motion was made by Bill Stephens and seconded by George Kosnak to have Eric do this.
Gary Benning said the web site is going good. We have 2 paid ads (Hale Hardware and Four Seasons Construction and the free ad for Wilson Trucking). He is thinking about having a sell and swap page added.
Motion was made by Carl Andrews and seconded by Mary Ann Stephens for the officers and board members to go to lunch.
Carl Andrews brought up the goose problem. We need to check to see if anything can be done LEGALLY to the goose eggs to prevent them from hatching.
Bill Stephens said that as of Jan. 1, 2012 the county will no longer do anything to private roads. Township Supervisor, Fred Lewis is looking into private contractors to do the private roads. There will be a meeting at the township hall on Sept. 21, 2011.
Barbara Scheans called the MLPA to ask about our loons abandoning their chick. They said that she was the third call with this same report and that they had not heard of anything like this before. They were going to look into it.
Gary Benning asked about seagulls---they are making a mess of people’s boats. They are protected so there is not much that can be done.

Meeting adjourned at 10:27am

Respectfully submitted,

Barbara Scheans

Minutes of Board meeting on July 19, 2011

The meeting was called to order by Jim MacArthur at 9:52 AM.
Roll call was taken. Present were: Jim MacArthur, Jerry Shuk, Barb Scheans, Mike MacKenzie, Bob Berger, Walt Wojewoda, Al Longyear, Doug Lange, George Kosnak, Ken Cumming, Al Scheans and Jim Goodrow.

The purpose of the meeting was to confirm the price of rock given to us by Darren Wilson of Wilson Trucking. He gave us a good price and we will give him free advertising on our web site.
The rocks are 6-14 lb. rocks. There will be buckets by the rock pile so people can load the buckets and take them out to the island.
Jim Goodrow will be there when the rock is delivered to show him where to dump the load.
Jerry Shuk has a 10 foot dock section that they will put in the water near where the rock will be dumped so people can get to the rocks more easily. The vote to purchase rock from Wilson was all in favor of the purchase.
The algae growth (green film) on the water was brought up. It is due to this very hot weather. Ken Cumming will talk to Savin about it before they spray the lake tomorrow.
Many goose complaints but that had already been discussed at a general meeting.
Meet
ing adjourned at 10:18aqm.

Respectfully submitted,

Minutes of meeting on July 2, 2011

The meeting was called to order by Jim MacArthur at 10 AM.
Officers present were: Jim MacArthur, Barb Scheans, Mike MacKenzie, Bob Berger, Walt Wojewoda, Al Longyear, Doug Lange, Butch Fournier, George Kosnak, Ken Cumming and Al Scheans.
The minutes were read by Barb Scheans. Motion to accept as read was made by Dave Hofmeister and seconded by Doug Lange. Minutes approved as read.
The Treasurer’s report was read. Motion to accept was made by George Kosnak and seconded by Gary Benning. Approved.
The by-laws were read. Motion to accept the revised by-laws made by Doug Lange, seconded by Carl Andrews. Passed.
Election of officers: Jerry Shuk was elected vice-president.
Ken Cumming gave a report on the weed treatment of the lake. He said the lake is in good condition. Savin will give better notice of weed treatment in the future.
Report on fish stocking--Ken Cumming contacted Henreitta Hills. Diana Speice contacted 2 companies. It was recommended that we go with Stony Creek. We will order 1000 5-7 inch perch to be put in the lake in the spring so we have the benefit of the spawning. We will try this for one year at a cost of $1350. We will revisit the issue next July at our meeting to see if we want to get more fish. A vote was taken in favor of the fish planting and it passed.
Loons---Al & Barb Scheans will contact Michigan Loon Preservation Association to see if there were any similar problems with loon chicks as we had this year.
Jim Goodrow talked about getting rocks for the island. He is trying to find some for free. Jim MacArthur got a price of $1000 for a 10 yard load of rock. We still need someone to spearhead the island effort. Jim Goodrow and Al Scheans will flag the area of the island that needs rocks so if anyone has any rocks they can take them out and put them in the proper place.
Jim Goodrow said that the lake is in better shape than previously. Barb Scheans will send a letter to Savin stating that we are pleased with the weed treatment results in our lake.
Coats, gloves, hats are needed for kids in Hale. Bring to our Labor day meeting. We have lots of kids in need.
Keep your garage doors down -- there have been robberies around the lake.
Parade at 3PM--meet at boat launch easement.
Meeting adjourned at 10:44 AM.
Respectfully submitted,

Barbara Scheans

Personal comment by Gary Benning:  Regarding Jim Goodrow & Al Scheans "flagging" a part of the island:  These men will be putting out flagged stakes at a certain area.  This part of the island desperately needs attention before it erodes further.  The rocks that are purchased will be dumped by the boat launch, across from Arlene's Party Store.  In your travels upon the waters of West Londo Lake, please stop by and pick up a dozen (or more - even all of them if you are ambitious) and toss them onto the island by the flagged areas.  You can even bring your favorite rocks from home :)  If everyone pitches in, we can get it done.

Also, what has been lost in the minutes is that the island restoration project needs someone to take control and lead the way.  It would make for a great time for full timers and us "down staters", maybe Labor Day weekend, or next memorial Day, to all work together towards this end, and meet each other in the process.  Even if you can't go out on the boat to the island, you could be at the base with water, etc, for everyone working.

Lastly. also lost in the minutes:  The Officers of the Association would like new people to come on board - preferably younger people - to take over the duties, such as they are, of the Association.  If you are interested, please contact Jim McArthur via his email on the "About Us" page.

> Stocking the lake with fish is still being looked into. Ken Cumming will have more info at the next meeting.
> Jim Goodrow talked about the island. It is disappearing and if we want an island, someone needs to spearhead the project. We do have a grant for 15 years so can go ahead and put sand and/or rock out there.
> The board will meet and discuss these items.
> There was a complaint about the way we take care of the park. The DEQ was called. We can continue to maintain the park. Half of the beach will go back to nature and the other half will remain beach. We will not pay for beach improvements. The Township will have to do that.
> Jim MacArthur said that if you have a problem, please do not call the state. Let us know.
> Gary Benning has started a web site. He explained what he has put on the site.
